Back in Kentucky

January 28, 2010 :: Posted by - Colby :: Category - Uncategorized

A few weeks ago I threw my back out and decided to head back to Kentucky to rest and prevent further injury.  While here I found out that I had scoliosis, a curvature in my spine that had caused my back muscles to have to work harder than they should.  Since then I have been seeing a chiropractor almost daily for adjustments and have seen some great improvements.  I am still not ready to swing a club again and am focusing on getting my back 100% healthy so this problem does not occur again.

Tournament Series Event #5, Rd. 1

December 15, 2009 :: Posted by - Colby :: Category - Uncategorized

I shot another poor round today…..73, which puts me in a tie for 37th. I now realize that I had found the routine that leads to my best play, something all tour players talk about getting into before they play big events. Unfortunately, that involves a few days of straight PRACTICE, not simply one day here and there between events like I am forced to do with this series. Tomorrow I will do my best to grind out a good round and look forward to one good day of practice wednesday before the final event of the series. Wish me luck to play better tomorrow and get back in the money!

Tournament Series Event #3 Final Round

I shot a 69 today to finish t26…..barely making a paycheck.  I played solid all day making 3 birdies and no bogeys.  This was my first bogey free round in quite a while and it was nice to play steady golf all day.  I got off to a good start, making birdie on my first hole, however things slowed down and it took me until my 13th hole to make my next birdie.  I am happy to be one of the few players to make a check in all three events, knowing that I have not played my best golf yet.  Thursday starts our next event on a tight course with small greens.  Tomorrow I will work on my game and get ready to improve my game for the rest of my winter schedule!

I played poorly today on my front nine, but turned it around on the back nine to shoot an even par 72.  I am currently tied for 52nd and disappointed with my lack of focus on the front nine.  If I play my game tomorrow for 18 holes and continue good iron play and solid putting, I should fare well and jump a few spots on the leaderboard.

PGA Tournament Series Event #2 Results

I finished my second event with another 71 for a two round total of 142, 2 under par, which put me in a tie for 16th place and in the money.  While I played better than yesterday, I didn’t capitalize on a ton of good opportunities and finished weak, bogeying the par 5 17th……a reachable par five. I am happy with my first week results, however, I know it could have easily been better. I will spend the weekend working on my game and getting ready for Monday’s first round! My goal is still become a better player every week and I WILL do my best to accomplish that goal!!!

Today I shot a one under par of 71 and am currently in a tie for 17th.  The good new: I am only 2 shots out of 5th place, I putted very well, and I finished strong- 3 under on my last 5 holes.  My ball striking was poor, and in the wind that produced some really bad shots, but thanks to a good short game I managed only 3 bogeys.  I am extremely pleased with my patience and ability to finish rounds so far, however I know that I need to start playing better BEFORE the final few holes!  Tomorrow is the final round and wish some luck and solid play I will be able to shoot a good score and move my way up the leader board!

PGA Tournament Series Final Round

I followed up a good round of 69 with an even better day of ball striking and a score of 68, good enough for a 6th place tie.  I hit all but one green in regulation today……a reachable par 5 after placing my drive in position A! My putter remained cold, missing 9 putts from inside 20 feet! There is no doubt in my mind that I hit the ball better and had more good birdie opportunities than anybody else in the field…..hopefully next time I will capitalize on a few more! Todays round consisted of 1 eagle (my very first hole!) 3 birdies and a bogey.  Tomorrow I will play a practice round for the next event and work hard on my putting : ) I look forward to a great week and continued success in the weeks to come!

PGA Tournament Series #1 Round 1

Shot a 3 under 69 in my first round of the winter which puts me 4 shots behind the leader in a tie for 10th.  I played well, 3 birdies, 1 eagle, and 2 bogeys.  I hit 15 greens and just couldn’t seem to find the bottom of the cup with my putter.  Hopefully I can roll a few in tomorrow and give myself a chance to win!

2009 Cutter & Buck Tournament Series Champion!

It looks like I may have to fly my dad in to caddy for me this winter in Florida!  For the second time this month he flew to Kentucky to caddy for me and for the second time in the month of September I won!  I followed up my opening 70 with a 74, thanks to a solid performance with my putter inside of 10 feet.  My ball striking was suspect, as was my speed on the greens.  However, other than a double bogey on the third hole (after losing a tee ball that is believed to still be plugged somewhere on the left side of the fairway) I only made 2 bogeys.  Both days I stuck with my game plan and even when I found myself 2 shots down through 8 holes yesterday, I did not force the issue.  I am happy to say that this is the first tournament that I have won without my “A” game, which shows me that I have grown as a golfer!  This was a great way to end my summer season and gives me confidence heading into my winter schedule.
